Highlights of Midland Tomorrow’s History

  • June 6, 1963 – Midland Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) founded to help large and small companies prosper in Midland.
  • 1965 – MEDC makes loans to small start-up companies.
  • 1970-1973 – MEDC supports all phases of acquisition, design and construction for industrial park project on Waldo Road.
  • 1978 – MEDC established as a non-profit organization called Midland County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC).
  • 1988 and 1989 – MEDC, Midland County and The Dow Chemical Company (which donated land) develop Eagle Ridge Technology Park and Eastwick Industrial Park #1.
  • 1991 – MEDC and Midland County Growth Council merge into Midland County Economic Growth and Development Corporation.
  • 1992 – MEDC, The Dow Chemical Company and Midland County create Eastwick Industrial Park #2.
  • 1993-2003 – MEDC helps attract a variety of technology, manufacturing and other businesses to Midland.
  • 2004 – The Council becomes Midland Tomorrow to gain exposure throughout Michigan.
  • 2005 - International Engineering and Manufacturing invested over $1 million and added 25 employees.
  • 2006 - Midland Tomorrow successfully marketed to five companies to locate in Midland.
  • 2008 -  Midland Tomorrow won a multi-state award from the Mid-America Economic Development Council recognizing their achievements in marketing the Midland community.  
  • 2009 & 2013 Midland Tomorrow received seven awards; two of which were Excellence in Economic Development.
  • 2013 - Midland wins approval for a standalone SmartZoneā„ , positioning the city for further growth. 
  • 2015 - Midland Information Technology Consortium (MITCON) a comprehensive IT solutions company became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Midland Tomorrow. 
  • October 2016 - MidMichigan Innovation Center (MMIC) a Midland based business incubator/accelerator was absorbed by Midland Tomorrow creating one comprehensive economic development organization serving entrepreneurs and high-grow companies.
