    Announcing the Midland Business Alliance

    May 3, 2016
Midland Area Chamber/Midland Tomorrow Umbrella Organization Name Announced

(Midland, MI) May 2, 2016 - Bill Allen, the President and CEO of the newly-formed affiliation of the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce and Midland Tomorrow, announced today that the umbrella organization will be known as the Midland Business Alliance. The Alliance’s logo and website can be viewed at www.midlandbusinessalliance.org.

Last year, the boards of directors of the Chamber and Midland Tomorrow, Midland County’s economic development agency, decided to leverage the two organizations’ operational services by creating an affiliation with shared leadership. After a nationwide search, Allen, a Michigan native and Northwood University graduate, was chosen to lead the Midland Business Alliance beginning in January 2016.

“By definition, an alliance is a commitment by those with common goals to work together to achieve said goals,” explained Allen. “The Chamber and Midland Tomorrow have always had similar goals of building our community by helping businesses in all stages of development succeed and grow here.

“The Midland Business Alliance allows us to take advantage of the 150 years’ combined experience both organizations bring to the table, and provide a full circle of business services at our Rodd Street offices. We will be able to reduce service overlaps, helping both organizations remain fiscally responsible. In addition, the alliance model will allow us to identify service gaps in our business community and work together to address those gaps.”

Financially, Midland Area Chamber of Commerce and Midland Tomorrow continue operating separately because of different tax statuses. The Chamber is a 501(c)6 and Midland Tomorrow is a 501(c)3. Midland Tomorrow, for example, can accept donations and apply for grants; the Chamber can advocate for businesses on a legislative level. The Chamber remains a membership-based organization and Midland Tomorrow remains an investor-based entity.

“The Midland Business Alliance affiliates will continue offering the same services they currently do, but those services will be enhanced through leveraging existing resources and contacts, as well as program collaboration,” noted Allen.

The 2016 Board of Directors for the Midland Business Alliance is: Chair, Lee Rouse, Omni Tech International, Ltd; Chair-Elect, Diane Postler-Slattery, MidMichigan Health; Treasurer, Pete Milojevic, Midland Cogeneration Venture; Secretary, Jon Lauderbach, Warner Norcross & Judd LLP; Rebecca Cox, The Savant Group; J.W. Fisher, Fisher Companies; Steven LaLonde, LaLonde Foods; Jon Lynch, City of Midland; David Ramaker, Chemical Bank; and Randy Sherman, Three Rivers Corporation.
